The awareness program for students of WP/KL/Bollegala Maha Vidyalaya

The students of Bollegala Maha Vidyalaya attended to a field visit for observing the practical functions of SLPC with the aim of covering a subject unit, ’ Communication Policies and Media Monitoring relevant to media and communication studies. The program had been launched as per the request was made by Mr.D.Solangaarachchi,principal and Mrs.Achala Liyanage, teacher of in charge.Further, the Students were informed by Mr.Niroshana Thambawita ,press commissioner and other officials at SLPC.

We are ready to provide a chance to students who follow media and communication studies for A/L’s in your school/ institution to attend for our workshops, organized by SLPC on communication and Media studies after making a prior notification to the council. Further, a chance could be offered to join with our programs by registration of your school’s or institution’s media society in SLPC.

Conference series for the teachers of communication and media studies (Central province)

Organized by: Sri Lanka Press Council

Central province teacher training workshop organized by Sri Lanka Press Council was held on 25.09.2020 in Kandy. The lectures were delivered by Mr.Aruna Lokuliyana Senior lecturer, Head of the Department of Mass Communication University of Kelaniya and Mr.Manoj Pushpakumara Jinadasa Senior Lecturer of the Department of Mass Communication University of Kelaniya. Many teachers of communication and media studies were participated while a discussion on new syllabus was also held.

The Chairman of Sri Lanka Press Council, Senior lecturer Mr.Mahinda Pathirana, Assistant Educational director of Central province Mr.K.G.Herath Banda, Press Commissioner Niroshana Thambawita, Accountant Kushan Dewapriya took part in the workshop.

The Press Photography at the floating Market & the Railway station, Colombo

The Practical Workshop on “The Press Photography” for the Certificate Course on Journalism conducted by Sri Lanka Press Council was held at the floating Market & the Railway station, Colombo recently which was conducted by Senior Photographer Mrs. Yamuni Rashmika Perera.

The guidance had been provided by Mr. Upaul Mannapperuma, teacher of in charge. Students were informed by Mr.Niroshana Thambawita and other officials at SLPC In the said event.

The Seminar for teachers of North Central Provincial

The Seminar for teachers of North Central Provincial was held on 14 th of February in 2019 at the auditorium of Resource Center which belongs to the North Central Zonal provincial office ,was held by the Sri Lanka Press Council. The Discourses were conducted by the emeritus professor Chandarasiri Rajapaksha & Dr . Tudor Weerasinghe' Furthermore the teachers who teach Communication & Media Studies as a Subject were participated to this event and the syllabus was discussed.

Field visit to Koggala Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Art Museum

The students of 9th batch of the diploma course on journalism attended to a field visit to Koggala Martin Wickramasinghe folk art museum on 29th, October, 2022. Making a proper comphrension among the students on the role of Mr. Martin Wickramasinghe who dedicated his service for wellbeing of the Sinhala literature and journalism as well as enhance a practical sense to journalism research were the main objectives of the said field visit.  
A drama was presented by the students based on his short story named “Irunu Kabaya” under the supervision of Emeritus prof .Mr.Sunanda Mahendra ,coordinator to the course . Further, keynote speech was done by Mrs. Sumudu Chathurani, deputy editor to Silumina paper on the great mission to journalism of Mr. Martin Wickramasinghe at the museum premises. 
As well as a lecture was conducted by Mr. J. Jayaneththi on behalf of Martin Wichramasinghe’s Trust and a chance was provided to students for watching biographical short film “ Wikumsihawatha” which exposes landmarks of editor’s life.  A bundle of SLPC publications was provided by Mr.Niroshana Thambawita ( press commissioner  ) for folk museum's library.
Finally, our gratitude will be expressed to all who made them informed by joining to this field visit on behalf of students.
