The Ampara District Regional Journalists’ Workshop, organized by the Sri Lanka Press Council with the coordination of the Ampara District Secretariat, was held on 25 August 2026 at the District Secretariat Auditorium. The workshop was conducted with Jagath Liyanarachchi Attorney-at-Law, and Senior Journalist Upendra Herath serving as resource persons. Senior Journalist Hilmi Mohammad facilitated the workshop and handled the translation. Ampara District Secretary Anupama Mangala Wickramarachchi and Assistant Press Commissioner Suroshana Iranga, together with regional journalists and other participants, attended the event. At the conclusion of the workshop, certificates were presented to the participating journalists in recognition of their participation.

International AI Technology Workshop for Young Journalists

Another workshop in the workshop series which was conducted by SLPC,was held on 30 th of November in 2019 at Samara Banquet hall in Gampaha. The journalists residing in Gampaha district participated to this occasion. “Conflict Reporting & Role of the Journalists” was the main topic of the programme. The discourses were conducted by Dr.Tudor Weerasinghe , the former rector of Sripali campus at University of Colombo "Mr. Wijayananda Rupasinghe , senior lecturer at University of Kelaniya & the Senior journalist Mr. Gamini Sumanasekara with associating conversations & discussions.

The Puttalam District Regional Journalists’ Workshop, organized by the Sri Lanka Press Council in coordination with the Puttalam District Secretariat, was held on 3 June 2026 at the auditorium of the Puttalam District Secretariat.

Attorney-at-Law Mr. Jagath Liyanarachchi and Senior Journalist and Lake House Editorial Director Mr. Sisira Yapa participated as resource persons for the workshop.

The event was attended by Mr. Y.M.I. Silva, District Secretary of Puttalam, Mr. Priyan R. Wijebandara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Press Council, Dr. Niroshana Thambawita, Press Commissioner, along with regional journalists and other participants.

Certificates were also awarded to the participating journalists at the end of the workshop.

The Workshop for provincial Journalists in Trincomalee district included to the series of workshops for journalists,conducted by The Sri Lanka Press Council was held at JKAB Park Hotel in Trincomalee (10.08.2019)

The District-Level Regional Journalists’ Workshop of Kalutara District, organized by the Sri Lanka Press Council in coordination with the Kalutara District Secretariat, was held 29^th of April 2026 at the auditorium of the Kalutara District Secretariat.

Attorney-at-Law Mr. Jagath Liyanarachchi and Senior Journalist Mr. T.M.G. Chandrasekara participated as resource persons for the workshop.

The event was attended by Hon. Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Mass Media, along with Mr. H.M.S.P. Herath, District Secretary of Kalutara, Mr. Priyan R. Wijebandara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Press Council, and Dr. Niroshana Thambawita, Press Commissioner. A large number of journalists from the Kalutara District also participated in the programme.

Another workshop in the workshop series which was conducted by SLPC was held on 23 rd of May In 2019 at " spring View” Hotel in Matale. The journalists in Matale district participated to this occasion' ”Conflict Reporting & Role of the Journalists” was the main topic of the programme.

The workshop which was conducted by Sri Lanka Press Council & Department of Government Information under the program titled “ Rata Wenuwen Ekata Sitimu” for Provincial Journalists of Eastern Province based on Batticaloa District was held very successfully at the District secretariat on 10th of April in 2019.

A provincial journalists’ workshop organized by the Sri Lanka Press Council under the theme “The Role of the Journalist in Building an Ethical Society” was held on 03 March 2026 at the auditorium of the Kandy District Secretariat. The programme was coordinated with the support of the Kandy District Secretariat.

The workshop was held with the participation of Kandy District Secretary Indika Udawatta, Chairman of the Council Priyan R. Wijebandara, and Press Commissioner Niroshana Tambawita. At the workshop, Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe delivered a lecture on “The Role and Responsibility of Journalists in the Face of New Trends,” and Senior Journalist Anura K. Edirisinghe delivered a lecture on “Challenges Faced by Regional Journalists.”

The workshop was moderated by Kandy District Information Officer Thanuja K. Abeysekare and was attended by a large number of regional journalists from the Kandy District.

Another workshop in the workshop series which was conducted by SLPC was held on 22 th of June in 2019 at Creston Park Hotel in Anuradhapura. The journalists in Anuradhapura district participated to this occasion.”Conflict Reporting & Role of the Journalists” was the main topic of the programme. The discourses were conducted by Dr.Tudor Weerasinghe , the former rector of SriPali campus at university of Colombo , Professor Rohana Luxman Piyadasa, Former Head of the Department of Mass Commuincation at University of Kelaniya & the senior journalist Mr. Gamini Sumanasekara.
