The workshop titled “Where is Media Literacy Heading?”, organized by the Sri Lanka Press Council for G.C.E. Advanced Level Communication and Media Studies teachers, was conducted via Zoom on 30 April 2026.

The workshop was moderated by Mr. Niroshan Thambawita, Press Commissioner, while Professor Ariyarathne Athugala and Senior Journalist Mr. Asoka Dias participated as the expert resource persons.

The Sri Lanka Press Council, in collaboration with the North Western Provincial Department of Education, organized a workshop for G.C.E. Advanced Level Communication and Media Studies teachers of the North Western Province on 28 July 2026 at the Wariyapola Education Development Centre.

The resource persons for the workshop were Dr. Sugath Mahinda Senarath and Senior Lecturer Sithumini Rathnamalala.

Press Commissioner Dr. Niroshana Thambawita, Additional Provincial Director of Education (Development) of the North Western Provincial Department of Education Dr. A.M.D. Waedanda, Deputy Director of Education (Languages and Humanities) Mrs Amitha Kumari Ilangakoon, officials of the Press Council, and a large number of teachers attended the event.

Certificates were awarded to all participating teachers at the conclusion of the workshop.
