Regional Journalists’ Workshop Organized by the Press Council Held in Anuradhapura
A regional journalists’ workshop organized by the Sri Lanka Press Council for the Anuradhapura District was held on 25 January 2025 at the National Institute of Post-Harvest Management (NIPHM), Anuradhapura.
The workshop, conducted under the theme “The Role of the Journalist in Building a Fair Society,” was attended by a large number of journalists representing both print and electronic media in the Anuradhapura District.
The programme was organized with the coordination of the Anuradhapura District Secretariat. Professor Tudor Weerasinghe and senior journalist Ariyananda Dombagahawatta delivered the keynote addresses, and the workshop was conducted through presentations, discussions, and interactive sessions.
Delivering his lecture on “The Responsibility of the Journalist and Its Importance,” Professor Tudor Weerasinghe stated that journalists are an integral part of an enlightened society and that they must fulfill their responsibilities as part of a broader mental and professional process. He further emphasized the importance of acting with understanding and responsibility in news reporting.
Speaking on the theme “The Role of the Journalist in Building a Fair Society,” senior journalist Ariyananda Dombagahawatta highlighted that journalists carry a high level of responsibility in the process of building a prosperous and well-functioning society.
Journalists who participated in the workshop expressed that such programmes on timely and important topics are highly beneficial to their professional work.
The workshop was attended by Anuradhapura District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya, Press Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Press Council Niroshan Thambavita, Assistant Press Commissioner Suroshana Iranga, along with several other officials and participants
